Growth, Robots, and Sports: the Amer Sports Story

By Quinte Economic Development Commission Nov 18, 2025 | 5:30 AM

Before it was Amer Sports, it was known locally as Wilson Sports, but no matter the name Amer Sports has been a sports equipment distributor in the Bay of Quinte for the last 55 years. Amer Sports is a globally recognized sporting equipment company, part of a global group of sports and outdoor brands. They carry 10 brands, including Atomic, Armada, Salomon, Wilson, Peak Performance, and the fast growing, Canadian equipment brand, Arc’teryx.

At the end of 2024, Amer Sports moved their 80 employees into a new facility in Belleville to an 8.3 million cubic foot facility; their previous campus in Belleville was 3.3 million cubic feet.

With this upgrade, Amer Sports Director of Distribution and IT Operations, Bradley Dow says, “The facility is the only facility globally to distribute all Amer Sports brands.”

Amer Sports supports all channels of distribution from this facility: retail, wholesale, and e-commerce, with advanced automation features including:

  • Exotec Automated Storage and Retrieval system with,
    • 60,000 tote bins
    • 36 robots
  • CMC carton wrap XL for custom packaging

67% of Canada’s Population Within 5 Hours

When asked “why the Bay of Quinte” Dow’s answer is simple:

“The 401 Highway is the busiest commercial highway in the world and 67% of Canada’s population lives and works within 5 hours of us. That’s why we (Amer Sports) want to be here.”

Dow lists the other numerous successful companies that call the Bay of Quinte home. “Why are Kellogg, Procter & Gamble and Amazon here?” With their location so close to Toronto and the Quebec border, and efficient highway and rail transportation, “the numbers speak for themselves,” says Dow. He says, facetiously, “We are the centre of gravity.”
