Students encouraged to explore healthcare careers

By Katie Sherratt Nov 10, 2025 | 4:19 PM

As students across the region submit their college and university applications, Quinte Health is encouraging young people to look beyond the familiar paths in healthcare and discover the wide range of rewarding, high-demand careers that exist right here in their community.

From nuclear medicine technologists and sonographers to lab technologists, respiratory therapists, and medical radiation technologists, many of these essential professions play a behind-the-scenes role in delivering high-quality patient care every single day.

“These are incredible careers for students who are curious about science, technology, and helping people,” said Stacey Daub, President and CEO, Quinte Health. “If you have a child or grandchild exploring future career options, this could be a wonderful opportunity right here in our community. Every image taken, every test analyzed, every patient supported – it all contributes to someone’s health and recovery.”

Across Quinte Health’s four hospitals, Diagnostic Imaging teams perform more than 170,000 imaging procedures each year, providing critical information that guides treatment decisions for patients of all ages. As healthcare needs grow with an aging population and increasing demand for services, skilled professionals in these specialized fields are in greater need than ever.

“Diagnostic Imaging is one of the most rewarding areas to work in,” said James Russell, Director, Diagnostic Imaging, Quinte Health. “You’re part of a close-knit team using advanced technology to make a real difference in people’s lives. We want students to know these are strong, stable, and impactful careers.”

Whether you’re applying to Loyalist College’s Nursing or Medical Radiation Technology programs or considering Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology at the Michener Institute of Education at U of T, Quinte Health looks forward to welcoming you to our team in the future!

“As someone who works in Diagnostic Imaging, I always tell students: if you love science, people and cool technology, nuclear medicine might just be your kind of awesome,” said Lisa Camp, Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, Quinte Health. “Nuclear medicine is where science meets detective work. You’ll use radiopharmaceuticals and special cameras to uncover how the heart pumps, how the brain works, or whether cancer treatments are doing their job. Quinte Health is actively encouraging local students to explore this exciting career pathway.”

If you’re a local student applying to an Ultrasound/Sonography or Nuclear Medicine program, Quinte Health would love to hear from you. There may be opportunities to support your future training and clinical placement through partnerships with Ontario colleges and universities. Email humanresources@quintehealth.ca to learn more.

Quinte Health wishes all students the very best as they prepare their applications. Whatever path they choose, the future is brighter because of their curiosity, compassion, and commitment to learning. We don’t just serve our communities – we are part of them!
