Dozens of crashes as record-setting snowfall hammers Quinte Region on Sunday

By Katie Sherratt Nov 10, 2025 | 5:00 AM

What will surely be a record-setting snowfall swept across the Quinte Region on Sunday, serving as the backdrop for icy roads and dozens of crashes.

The biggest delays were caused by a multi-vehicle collision on the eastbound 401 in the Grafton area around 5 pm.

Injuries were minor but they closed the highway eastbound until shortly before 7 pm for the cleanup.

That was one of dozens of crashes on the 401 through the region. There were another half-dozen in Quinte West alone during the afternoon. There were no major injuries there, either.

Highway 7 was also closed because of a serious crash in the Sharbot Lake area following a collision involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle around 4 pm.

It was reopened around 11:30. One person was taken to the hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

Officials are urging caution for drivers on Monday morning as many roads are icy and some areas have not yet been cleared from the original snowfall.

Sunday set a record for snowfall in Quinte, with a total of 9.8 cm. That is more than five times the previous record for that date.
