Wastewater Treatment System breaks ground in Brighton

Mayor Brian Ostrander and members of council were pleased to welcome MPP David Piccini to Brighton for the official groundbreaking ceremony of the new Wastewater Treatment System.

This critical infrastructure project, supported by a nearly $35 million investment from the Government of Ontario’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, will enhance local water services, enable new housing developments and drive economic growth in Brighton.

The new Wastewater Treatment System in the Municipality of Brighton is part of the government’s nearly $4 billion investment in critical infrastructure that will make new housing possible, including approximately 3,000 new homes in Brighton, Ontario’s Acting Minister of Infrastructure Todd McCarthy stated.

“Today’s groundbreaking marks a major milestone for Brighton and Ontario,” stated David Piccini, MPP Northumberland-Peterborough South. “Our government’s investment will create good local jobs and build new homes, demonstrating our commitment to infrastructure that drives growth and opportunity across rural Ontario.”

With support from the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, Brighton will replace the current pond-based wastewater system with a more efficient and environmentally friendly mechanical treatment facility. This improvement will support environmental protection and contribute to a vibrant, sustainable community for all residents.

Ostrander says this investment and support from provincial partners is a major milestone for the municipality.

“We’re building the infrastructure that will power our growth for the next 25 years and beyond,” Ostrander stated.

“This new Wastewater Pollution Control Plant will not only enable us to build the homes our community needs-it also resolves longstanding ammonia concerns, protecting our environment and ensuring a cleaner future for all.”
