Public meeting for proposed ballot question in PEC in Athol on Monday night

By Hailey MacDonald Nov 3, 2025 | 6:14 AM

The third of four public meetings on a potential ballot question next year on the size of council will happen on Monday night in Athol Ward.

County Council intends to pass a by-law to add the following question to the election ballot:

Are you in favour of a third-party review of Council size and related ward boundary changes?

Answer options: “Yes” or “No” only

The third of four public meetings will be held on Monday night.

Date: November 3, 2025
Time: 6 pm
Location: Athol Town Hall, 1685 County Road 10, Cherry Valley

The fourth meeting will be held in just over two weeks.

Date: November 18, 2025
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Shire Hall, 332 Picton Main Street

For the results of the question to be legally binding on the municipality:

At least 50 per cent of the eligible electors in the municipality vote on the question, and
More than 50 per cent of the voters are in favour

Should this occur the estimated costs of a third-party review would be between $75,000 and $100,000 depending on the scope of the work. Any changes would be in effect for the 2031 municipal election.
