Hawks pepper net with shots in diapatching Blades

The Trenton Golden Hawks displayed utter domination on the shot count and came away with a 4-1 win on Sunday evening over the Oakville Blades.

Trenton outshot Oakville 51-14, but only the play of goaltender Alex Armellin kept the visitors close for the better part of 60 minutes.

He made 19 saves in a busy first period to hold the Hawks off, but Trenton eventually broke through with Joey Brehmer potting his eighth of the season 2:37 into the second.

Jaxon Pierce and Matt Hicks assisted on the Brehmer goal.

A Trenton penalty led to another break for Trenton, with Jack Ziliotto flying away shorthanded and lasering a shot off the right wing over Armellin’s left shoulder for a goal to make it 2-0.

Johnny Brooks got one back on Jake Shingles early in the third, but Kale Mace added some huge insurance by being on the receiving end of a flashy deke move and assist from Logan Bennett at 13:33.

A Jaxon Broda empty-netter capped things off and helped Trenton add one more notch onto their point streak to 10 straight games, as well as pad their lead atop the OJHL’s East Conference.

Shingles needed to only stop 13 shots for his second win as a Hawk.

After hosting the first leg of the Zach Hyman OJHL Prospects Series showcase on Tuesday, the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens will be open for regular business Friday at 7:30 p.m. when the Hawks take on the Newmarket Hurricanes.
