The Belleville Police Service has stated it is temporarily suspending use and promotion of the Quinte Crime Stoppers tip line following a cybersecurity incident.
The incident involved Navigate360, the third-party provider of the P3 tip management platform used by Crime Stoppers programs across Canada.
Officials noted that while Quinte Crime Stoppers remains a valued community partner and plays an important role in supporting public safety across the Quinte region, the BPS is temporarily suspending use of the tipline and online reporting portal as a precautionary measure while further information regarding the incident is reviewed.
While information received through Crime Stoppers may be shared with police for investigative follow-up, the Quinte Crime Stoppers program and its P3 platform are separate from the Belleville Police Service and any internal police systems.
During this suspension, members of the public who wish to provide information are encouraged to contact the Belleville Police Service directly.
While this does not provide the anonymity associated with the Crime Stoppers program, it will ensure information is received directly by investigators.
· Non-Emergency Line: 613-966-0882
· In an emergency or if a crime is in progress, call 9-1-1
BPS officials say they will continue to work with Quinte Crime Stoppers and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
