Several affordable housing developments will be front and centre as Belleville council meets at City Hall today for the last meeting before the election later this month.
Council will consider a motion to award a tender for the sale of the vacant green space on the former Queen Mary school property to All-Together Housing Inc. for $1.25 million dollars. They were the highest ranked and only qualified proposal received.
The project would have a 90-unit rental development with 45 affordable units included.
Staff will be asked to proceed with Option 2 to issue a Request for Proposals for Part 2 (the former school site) for a multi-unit residential development up to 55 units with an affordable housing component, and to utilize Housing Accelerator Funds to cover the cost of demolishing the building (which has several issues including major flood damage).
No tender bids were received for the school property.
Council will also consider motions relating to affordable housing developments at 7 Aldersgate Drive and 20 College Street West.
Council meets Tuesday at Belleville city hall at 4 pm.
