The County of Prince Edward hosted the inaugural Civic Recognition Awards ceremony last night, celebrating the exceptional individuals, organizations, and groups that have made a lasting impact on the community.
“On behalf of Council and the residents of Prince Edward County, congratulations to the recipients of the 2026 Civic Recognition Awards,” Mayor Ferguson says. “Through your dedication, leadership, generosity, courage, and service, you have made a meaningful difference in the lives of others and in our community.”
The Civic Recognition Program provides an opportunity for the Mayor and members of Council to celebrate and honour individuals, groups, and businesses for their outstanding service, achievements, and contributions to Prince Edward County.
Mayor Ferguson announced the following award recipients during the ceremony at The Regent Theatre:
Amateur Sports: Jessica Davis
Bravery and Heroism: Spencer Henshaw
Community / Service Groups: Friends of the Library; Food for Learning
Environment and Sustainability: The Climate Action Plan Working Group
Youth Leadership: Thomas Rice
Youth Volunteer: Audrey Maracle
Outstanding Volunteers: Brian Beiles; Beverley Marr; Susan Rose; Pamela Stagg; Carole Thimidis; Lee Tremblay and Lillee; Nancy Woods
Mayor’s Special Achievement: Sandra Latchford; Peter Lockyer; David Hepburn and Max Mee; Terry Sprague; Lee Tremblay and Lillee; Hon. Lyle Vanclief; Myrna Woods (posthumously)
Also during the ceremony, Ben Thornton was presented with the Governor General’s Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, the highest honour for volunteer service in Canada.
