Three local boxers are coming away from a recent provincial tournament with medals.

Avery Crawford, Makayla Johnson and D’Andrej Felix won gold, silver and bronze respectively at the Golden Gloves Provincial Boxing Championships in Windsor last weekend.

Crawford clinched the golden gloves in the 143-pound division to earn himself the number one spot in Ontario and number three position out of all amateur boxers in Canada.

This has also taken him one step closer to the Olympics, as he will be included on Team Ontario to compete in the U23 National Tournament in Calgary in March.

Johnson will also be heading to a national event in Winnipeg to fight with Team Ontario, while Felix will use his bronze medal in the 185-pound men’s elite division to compete for a national wild card spot.

All three boxers train out of Pinnacle Boxing Academy in Belleville.
