Two men have been charged with assault, driving and impersonation offences following an incident early Thursday evening.

Before 6 p.m., Tyendinaga Police responded to an incident on Highway 2 involving a motorcycle operator who was assaulted after being pulled over by a vehicle displaying unauthorized red and blue lights.

Police say one man struck the motorcycle with his truck causing the rider to fall and then reportedly assaulted him while being joined by another man after he exited the vehicle.

Charles Somerville and Connor Bolton both face assault with a weapon and personating a peace officer charges.

Somerville also was charged failing to comply with a probation order and dangerous operation of a vehicle, while Bolton was given an additional charge of driving while prohibited.

Somerville was arrested and held pending a bail hearing on Friday, while an arrest warrant has been issued for Bolton.

During the course of the investigation, the victim was also arrested on outstanding warrants stemming from an unrelated matter in the City of Belleville and was returned to the Belleville Police Service.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tyendinaga Police Service 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
