Wellington Town Hall is preparing to change hands.
Prince Edward County Council approved a motion at its meeting Tuesday night to prepare to transfer the town hall property to the Wellington Town Hall Stewardship Association.
The motion would direct municipal staff to complete any preparations needed for the land transfer, including public notice requirements, and any required signed agreements needed.
In a report to council, director of recreation and community facilities Lisa Lindsay recommended that council acknowledge the Wellington Town Hall Stewardship Association has successfully satisfied the requirements outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding approved by Council back in January and has demonstrated readiness to assume future stewardship responsibilities for the Wellington Town Hall.
Another option listed was the ability for council to extend the transition period to allow for additional information gathering, due diligence, or further organizational development activities by the association, which Lindsay stated was not recommended by staff.
The transfer process will aim to support an orderly transition to independent ownership and operation effective January 1, 2027.
