Northumberland Land Trust has announced that it has appointed a new Engagement and Development Coordinator.
Ian Shanahan was announced as the new person in the role last week, bringing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto into the job.
“With the generous support from the Centre for Land Conservation, we were able to add Ian to our team in a role that is crucial to NLT’s ability to prepare for the future,” stated Amanda Newell, Executive Director, Northumberland Land Trust. “Ian’s skills and experience will help us grow the number of people and foundations that can support our work to preserve nature in Northumberland.”
Over 13 years in the education and interpretation department with Ontario Parks, Shanahan worked eight seasons at Presqu’ile, one at Charleston Lake, and four at Algonquin, the last of which was spent backfilling as the coordinator of the interpretive program.
He next spent five years as General Editor of Green Teacher magazine and three years as Director of Communications with Worldwide Quest, with whom he previously led small-group nature tours to domestic and international destinations.
NLT says Shanahan continues to support the Outdoor Learning School and Store as Project Coordinator.
“Nature conservation and stewardship are increasingly essential, and land trusts provide a direct path to achieving both,” said Ian. “It is a duty and a privilege to be part of Northumberland Land Trust, especially at a time of such exciting organizational growth.”
