The road to the municipal election begins now in the Bay of Quinte region.
Following Friday’s 2 p.m. deadline, the City of Belleville reported four candidates for mayor, including incumbent Neil Ellis, 16 candidates for six spots for Ward 1 Belleville councillor and four candidates for two seats in Ward 2 Thurlow in its unofficial list.
Meanwhile in Quinte West, three candidates (current councillors Zack Card and Shelley Stedall, as well as David Thomson) have filed to contend for the mayor’s seat left by the retiring Jim Harrison, with 25 hoping to land one of 12 council seats.
In Prince Edward County there are three candidates for mayor (current councillor Brad Nieman, former councillor Ernie Margetson and newcomer Terry Shortt) and 29 people going for 10 seats on council, with three wards already acclaimed.
Candidate lists for these and all local municipalities are expected to be finalized Monday ahead of campaigns starting for the October 26 election.
