A new project at the Quinte Mall will be generating a lot of buzz next year.
In celebration of World Honey Bee Day (on Saturday), Quinte Mall and Operation BeeStrong are proud to announce a major multi-phase environmental and community mental wellness initiative launching for the 2027 spring season.
Together, the partners are transforming the shopping center’s rooftop into a home for managed honey bee hives, supported by newly constructed native pollinator gardens across the mall’s property.
These gardens will establish a rich, biodiverse foraging habitat for the upcoming hives.
The parallels are obvious. BeeStrong is a new program that relies on community connection and hands-on engagement with nature to foster mental wellness and resilience among active and retired First Responders, Canadian Armed Forces personnel, and veterans.
The strength of the collective is vital for both communities, with members relying of the support of others to enhance their own ability to survive and thrive.
So thanks to everyone with the Quinte Mall and Jeremy Ashley of the Belleville Police Service and the rest of the BeeStrong team for making happen.
It’s an amazing program that helps some of the people who keep us safe but often see more than they should, taking the sting out of everyday life one hive at a time.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
