A recreational activity involving map-questing caused some concerns for bystanders in Belleville.
On Thursday August 13, 2026 at approximately 2:45 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a report of a suspicious item in the parking lot near a Bell Boulevard commercial business.
The caller reported observing an older man remove an item from a vehicle and place it beneath a nearby pole. The caller later located the item and believed it may have contained drugs.
Police determined the item was a geocaching package, an item used in a GPS-based recreational activity where participants locate and log hidden containers placed at specific locations.
The package was disposed of, and no further police action was required.
