July building numbers are in for the Municipality of Quinte West, and the trend remains downward in 2026 when compared to the previous year.
Quinte West building officials noted in the municipality’s most recent building report that 53 permits were issued last month, totaling a little more than $7.6 million in construction value.
Three larger permits issued last month include almost $800,000 for a new residential build on 12 Edward St., $350,000 to the Hastings & Prince Edward District School Board for an ‘institutional renovation’ at 15 Fourth Avenue and $295,000 for a business renovation at the Trenton Plaza at 17512 Highway 2 Building A.
The number of permits issued was slightly below the 57 recorded last year, but construction value was much higher compared to the $5.8 million from July 2025.
Through the first seven months of the year, Quinte West is noting a continuing downturn in building activity, with 300 permits issued compared to 331 by this time in 2025 and a value of $79.3 million, compared to around $94.8 million last year.
