Quinte Conservation has partnered with Paddle Pod Canada to bring self-serve kayak rentals to both Depot Lakes and Massassauga Point Conservation Areas.
This initiative is part of a two-year pilot project with the Toronto-based start-up, which focuses on providing user-friendly and affordable watercraft rental options.
“Paddle Pod Canada is a fantastic addition to our conservation areas and will offer visitors the opportunity to get out on the water and experience our areas from a different angle,” says Tammy Smith, Corporate Services Manager at Quinte Conservation.
The rental system operates through an easy-to-use mobile app. After selecting a product and rental period, users can unlock their kayak and access a life jacket and paddle. The app also provides real-time notifications about incoming weather or potential water hazards.
“We’ve just completed a major improvement project at Depot Lakes Conservation Area, including an impressive new swimming area, beach, and rest-and-relaxation space with Muskoka chairs,” adds Smith. “Being able to offer kayak rentals makes a huge impact when promoting the area as a place to spend the day.”
Paddle Pods will be available from July through late September in both 2026 and 2027. Rental prices start at $17.99 for the first hour. Depending on the success of the pilot program, Quinte Conservation hopes to make the pods a permanent feature at select conservation areas.
Working with Paddle Pod Canada aligns with Quinte Conservation’s strategic vision of boosting wellbeing through programs and partnerships that encourage spending time in nature.
