Humane Society Hastings-Prince Edward has signed the Ontario SPCA’s No Hot Pets Pledge.
The annual summer awareness campaign is designed to promote pet safety in the warmer months.
Officials stress that temperatures can climb in vehicles in a matter of minutes, and leave pets vulnerable.
Here’s a few tips from the local humane society on social media.
- If you see a hot pet in a car, call 911.
- Think twice when you put your dog in the car. Will you need to get out of the car at any point? Ask yourself if the safer place for them is at home.
- If it’s too hot for you to exercise outside, it’s too hot for your pet. Tryindoor play, puzzle enrichment toys, and training sessions instead of going for your regular walk.
- If your pet has good indoor manners, consider bringing them onpet-friendly errands with you, like to Home Depot, Canadian Tire, or HomeSense.
- Beat the heat and go for your daily walk in the early morning or after the sun has set. Always test the temperature of the pavement with your hand first.
- #NoHotPets window decals will be available at the Humane Society soon. Take the pledge: No Hot Pets. No excuses.
