Hastings County has the local golf bragging rights for the next year.
A total of 126 golfers gathered at Trillium Wood Golf Club in Belleville on Tuesday for the 42nd Annual Mayors Challenge to raise money for the Community Living Belleville and Area Foundation.
The event brings together community leaders and also teams from Belleville, Quinte West, Prince Edward County and Hastings County to compete for the coveted title each year.
This year’s champion was the team (representing Warden Bob Mullin) led by CAO Connor Dorey from Hastings County, which won the signature challenge with a score of 11-under.
Last year’s winner was the team from Quinte West (representing Mayor Jim Harrison).
Organizers say the final amount raised won’t be known until they know the numbers from the silent auction, which ended at midnight (11:55 pm).
They say they raised at least as much as last year’s event, which brought in around $35,000 (mid-30’s).
Community Living Belleville and Area is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year. The Foundation supports the purchase of accessible vehicles as well as properties for residential supports for people with intellectual disabilities to help them live a full, valued and rewarding life.
