We received another example yesterday of the importance of one prominent educational institution when it comes to the health of the community and also local citizens.
Loyalist College cut the ribbon yesterday for the new Medical Radiation Technology lab, which will support students in Loyalist’s Medical Radiation Technology program to gain experience in diagnostic imaging.
It is an innovative addition to the college with two fully-functioning X-Ray machines, and a recent $750,000 donation from the Parrott Foundation will also help them acquire a CT scanner for the facility.
Demand is high with 35 spaces for the fall already full, a long waitlist, and placement opportunities already in place at hospitals and clinlcs in Belleville, Quinte West, Campbellford and Napanee.
Loyalist has had more than its share of challenges recently, but it’s good to see new programs still being added and especially ones like this one that underline the importance that the college has for all of us.
One of the most vital parts of any medical treatment program is the initial diagnosis provided through the use and support of diagnostic imaging. It is absolutely critical to identifying illnesses and conditions in their earliest stages when they are the most treatable.
This new facility will literally provide a lifeline for untold thousands of patients at hospitals across the Quinte Region by supplying them with trained professionals ready to help people take the first steps on their road to recovery.
Convocation is just around the corner at Loyalist, and soon, dozens of new grads will become Medical Radiation Technologists, helping put the College, community and many local patients on healthier footing moving forward.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking beyond the Headlines.
