Belleville Police focus on vehicle safety during modified vehicle inspections

Belleville Police are stepping up efforts to keep roads safe by focusing on modified vehicles. Over the coming weeks, officers will be conducting inspections to ensure that vehicle modifications do not compromise driver ability or put others at risk.

Vehicle modifications in Ontario must comply with the Highway Traffic Act and provincial safety standards. Modifications that fail to meet these standards can result in fines, vehicle towing, or license plate seizure. Officers will be paying particular attention to common concerns, including:

· Exhaust systems: Excessively loud or improperly modified exhausts that create noise disturbances.

· Suspension and ride height: Lifts over 2 inches or unsafe suspension modifications that affect vehicle stability and roadworthiness.

· Lighting: Headlights, taillights, and other vehicle lighting must meet visibility and safety standards.

· Window tint: Front side windows and windshields must provide an unobstructed view for safe driving.

These inspections are part of Belleville Police’s ongoing commitment to road safety. Drivers are reminded that safe, legal modifications help protect everyone on the road.
