Inmate death reported at Joyceville

An inmate’s death has been reported at a prison in the Kingston area.

Correctional Service of Canada officials reported an inmate from Joyceville Institution’s Assessment unit died while in custody of apparent natural causes on Monday, May 11.

The individual’s name has been anonymized in accordance with a court-ordered publication ban to protect the identity of victims.

At the time of death, the inmate was 60 years old and had been serving a 12-year sentence since November 21, 2025.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances.
