Belleville Police Service Launches 190th Anniversary Celebrations During Police Week

This National Police Week, the Belleville Police Service (BPS) is celebrating not only the dedication of our officers and the strength of our community partnerships, but also launching a series of initiatives to mark 190 years of service to Belleville, with the official anniversary on June 18, 2026.

Held from May 10 to 16, Police Week carries the 2026 provincial theme, “Protecting Ontario through Service,” which recognizes the vital role police play in keeping communities safe and underscores the importance of collaboration between police, residents, governments, businesses, and community partners. For BPS, this week provides a special opportunity to honour our past, highlight our achievements today, and look forward to the future of policing in Belleville, celebrating the people and partnerships that have shaped our service over nearly two centuries.

Here’s what to look forward to during Police Week and beyond:

• Glanmore National Historic Site Exhibit: Opening May 12th, 190 Years of the Belleville Police Servicefeatures historic artifacts and explores the evolution of policing in Belleville. A free open house will run onMay 12th from noon–7 p.m. The exhibit runs until September 13th at 257 Bridge St. E. More information is available at www.glanmore.ca.
• On the Beat in Belleville: Opening May 12th, the Community Archives of Belleville and Hastings County will showcase archival records and photographs related to the Belleville Police Service. This exhibit runs until June 30th at 254 Pinnacle St. More information is available at cabhc.ca
• Downtown Walking Tour: Launching May 12th, a new downtown walking tour highlights former police headquarters with historic photos and interpretive panels. Printed maps will be available at the Community Policing Office, 211 Front St., and a digital version of the tour will be shared on Belleville Police Service social media channels. The walking tour will be available throughout 2026.
• Belleville Police Service Open House – June 18:On the official 190th anniversary of BPS, we invite residents to join us for an Open House. Receive a guided tour of our headquarters and learn about our specialized units. Time slots available; registration is required. Stay tuned for more details.
• Historical Highlights: Leading up to and beyond June 18th, The Belleville Police Service will share historical facts and stories on social media celebrating our long history of service.
• 190th Anniversary Merchandise: Commemorative items, including challenge coins and die-cast police car will be made available for purchase.
• 190th Anniversary Publication: A specially commissioned book, published by the Hastings County Historical Society, chronicles 190 years of the Belleville Police Service. At over 200 pages with approximately 100 photos, it features detailed histories, 600 names of policemen, magistrates, mayors, and a few infamous criminals, as well as stories of bravery, daily life, and humorous moments. The book will be available for purchase.
