The County of Prince Edward is currently responding to a reported contamination incident in Marsh Creek in Picton.

Upon notification, the municipality stated staff members attended the site and immediately implemented containment measures. At this time, the situation is considered contained.

Drinking water supplied by the Picton Water Treatment Plant remains safe for consumption. Monitoring of the water supply will continue throughout the incident response.

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has been notified and is on site working alongside municipal operations, fire services, and water and wastewater department personnel to assess and manage the situation.

Efforts are ongoing to determine the source of the contamination. Environmental consultants have been engaged to support cleanup efforts, and both field sampling and further investigation are underway in accordance with provincial direction.

County officials say protecting the environment and public safety remains their top priority. The municipality will continue to work closely with provincial authorities and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

The municipality recommends that residents keep their pets away from this area of Marsh Creek in Delhi Park through to the south side of Picton Harbour to just east of the County boat launch.

A map of the affected area can be seen above.
