UPDATE THURSDAY
The latest update on the Marsh Creek contamination incident:
- A crew has completed its clean up of the road and catch basins on Picton Main Street where the fuel spill occurred.
- Containment measures continue to be in place in the Marsh Creek area and the mouth of Picton Harbour.
- Drinking water supplied by the Picton Water Treatment Plant remains safe for consumption. Monitoring of the water supply will continue throughout the incident response.
- Residents should keep their pets away from this area of Marsh Creek in Delhi Park through to the south side of Picton Harbour to just east of the County boat launch.
UPDATE on Wednesday morning –
The County of Prince Edward is providing the following update on the reported contamination incident in Marsh Creek in Picton:
- The municipality has identified the source of the contamination as a fuel spill near the intersection of Picton Main Street and Bowery Street. The fuel entered the stormwater system and flowed to Marsh Creek.
- A clean up crew is currently on scene at Picton Main Street cleaning up the spill.
- Containment measures continue to be in place in the Marsh Creek area.
- Drinking water supplied by the Picton Water Treatment Plant remains safe for consumption. Monitoring of the water supply will continue throughout the incident response.
- The Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) is currently investigating the cause of the spill. Anyone with information is asked to contact MECP by filing a report online or calling 1.866.663.8477. You can remain anonymous.
- Protecting the environment and public safety remains our top priority. The municipality will continue to work closely with provincial authorities and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
- Below is the area that the contamination has been observed. The municipality recommends that residents keep their pets away from this area of Marsh Creek in Delhi Park through to the south side of Picton Harbour to just east of the County boat launch.

ORIGINAL STORY on Tuesday – The County of Prince Edward is currently responding to a reported contamination incident in Marsh Creek in Picton.
Upon notification, the municipality stated staff members attended the site and immediately implemented containment measures. At this time, the situation is considered contained.
Drinking water supplied by the Picton Water Treatment Plant remains safe for consumption. Monitoring of the water supply will continue throughout the incident response.
The Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has been notified and is on site working alongside municipal operations, fire services, and water and wastewater department personnel to assess and manage the situation.
Efforts are ongoing to determine the source of the contamination. Environmental consultants have been engaged to support cleanup efforts, and both field sampling and further investigation are underway in accordance with provincial direction.
County officials say protecting the environment and public safety remains their top priority. The municipality will continue to work closely with provincial authorities and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
