Reid sentenced to 10 years on sexual abuse charges

A Belleville man will be behind bars for at least 10 years on sexual assault and sexual interference charges, among others.

Justice Patrick Hurley laid down the sentence at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse on Monday against Brian Robert Reid.

Reid was found guilty on 10 total charges, including three counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference, two counts of inviting sexual touching, and one count each of sexual exploitation and making child pornography in cases against two young girls.

At a hearing last month, Hastings County Acting Crown Attorney Mike Lunski called for a sentence of 10 to 12 years, while local defence lawyer James Lisowski proposed seven to nine.

The judge agreed that a substantial penitentiary sentence was appropriate in this case due to Reid’s prolonged abuse of the two young victims while he was supposed to be in a position of trust and authority.

He took into account Reid’s 10 1/2 months of pre-sentence custody, and as part of his sentence, a DNA order, a lifetime weapons prohibition, a forfeiture order of all items seized by police, a communication ban, internet/communication order with restrictions, and a SOIRA order (Sex Offender Information Registration Act) have all been levied.
