Brian Ostrander has officially entered the race to seek a third term as Mayor of Brighton.
Ostrander officially filed his nomination papers for re-election in the 2026 municipal election on Friday morning. Seeking a third term, Ostrander’s campaign centers on a comprehensive “Next Steps” vision for Brighton, balancing aggressive infrastructure improvements with fiscal responsibility.
“Our community is on the right track.” said Mayor Ostrander. “We have seen significant growth over the last four years. Now, we must ensure that our services and infrastructure don’t just keep up, but lead the way. My goal is to ensure Brighton remains a place where families can thrive and seniors can retire with dignity and security.”
Key Pillars of the Ostrander 2026 Platform Include:
- Comprehensive Fiscal Review: A deep-dive review into how services are provided, including a tax balance review to ensure urban and rural residents pay proportionately for the services they receive. The review will also explore revenue opportunities to reduce the burden on property taxes and service level reviews to ensure taxpayers are getting value for money.
- Emergency Service Redevelopment: Expanding paramedic services and redeveloping the downtown fire and ambulance station. Crucially, Ostrander committed today to the development of a new emergency sub-station south of the tracks to eliminate response delays caused by rail traffic.
- Traffic and Pedestrian Safety: Implementation of advanced traffic calming measures to protect vulnerable populations and the expansion of the municipality’s trail and path networks for enhanced accessibility and walkability.
- Recreation and Partnerships: Advancing the development of multi-use recreational facilities through a combination of community fundraising and private-sector sports partnerships.
-
Economic Growth and Housing: Leveraging regional partnerships in Quinte and Northumberland to drive employment while completing Brighton’s Affordable Housing Plan to support first-time homeowners, working families and seniors.
Mayor Ostrander, currently 55, has served as Mayor since 2018. Under his leadership, the town has navigated major infrastructure upgrades, including the critical wastewater treatment expansion, full redevelopment of Prince Edward Street, rail crossing safety systems, and many kilometres of underground and above ground infrastructure work.
“We are on the right track, but the job isn’t done,” Ostrander concluded. “I am asking for your support to finish the major projects we’ve started and to ensure Brighton’s future is as bright as its history.”
