Neil Ellis has announced that he is again running for Mayor in Belleville.
Ellis filed his nomination papers at city hall on Friday morning, the first day of the nomination period for the election coming up in October.
Ellis has already served three terms as Mayor, two before becoming the MP for the Bay of Quinte. and also the current term of council after being re-elected to the post in 2022.
Ellis issued the following statement to our newsroom on Friday.
STATEMENT FROM NEIL ELLIS – I’m proud to announce that I will be seeking re-election as Mayor in the 2026 municipal election.
Serving this community has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Over the past term, we’ve made real progress together. We’ve taken meaningful steps to strengthen physician recruitment—helping address long-standing healthcare challenges and improving access to care for residents. By working closely with our healthcare partners and having an exceptional physican recruiter on staff, we’ve made headway on an issue that matters deeply to so many families and I am confident we can solve the crisis over the next term of Council.
We’ve also focused on responsible development and sustainable growth. From supporting new housing and local businesses to investing in infrastructure, we are building a stronger, more vibrant city that people are proud to call home. Our community is growing, and we’re ensuring that growth is thoughtful, balanced, and beneficial for everyone.
Looking ahead, there is exciting momentum. We have significant investment announcements on the horizon that will bring new opportunities, jobs, and energy to our city.
There is more work to do, and I’m motivated every day by the people in this community. I look forward to continuing to listen, collaborate, and lead with a focus on progress and connection.
