Two medals at Tora for members of Quinte Judo Club

By Paul Martin Apr 27, 2026 | 5:11 AM

The Quinte Judo Club sent two members to the 44th annual Tora Judo Championships in Brampton this weekend, with both bringing back some hardware.

Scott Morgan didn’t quite make weight for his -90 kg division (+1/2 kilo), so he competed in the -100 kg division winning 2 of his 3 matches for a silver medal in the Veterans division (over age 30). A couple of good throws & pinning an opponent to the mat ended his matches early. In Judo, throwing an opponent flat on their back or pinning them for 20 seconds results in an immediate win.

Representing Quinte Judo for U18 minus 73 kg division was Doug Robinson. Taking home a bronze medal with 2 wins/2 losses in well fought matches. Doug only started Judo last September, & will be quickly moving up in ranks as he has been defeating higher ranks for two tournaments in a row. Robinson also trains with Kenzo Dozono, earning a brown belt in Karate.

The goal in Judo however is to subdue your opponent, not injure them. Competitive Judo is a very volatile sport however, so not to be taken lightly. For more info on Judo, check out the reels on the Quinte Judo Clubs Face Book page.
