Local MP welcomes new members following byelections

MP Chris Malette has welcomed the election of new Liberal Members of Parliament Danielle Martin (University–Rosedale), Tatiana Auguste (Terrebonne), and Doly Begum (Scarborough Southwest), expressing pride and appreciation for their efforts.

“These were important byelections that reaffirm Canadians’ confidence across two provinces and in our work to build a stronger, more sovereign Canada for the benefit of all, especially in these challenging times,” stated Malette.

Malette also welcomed the evolving composition of Parliament, noting that the Liberal government now holds a majority in the House of Commons.  The wins bring the Liberals up to 174 seats, putting them on more solid ground as they work to pass legislation through the House of Commons.

Malette emphasized that this stability would allow key legislation to move forward with the urgency Canadians expect, particularly on affordability, public safety and Canada’s role on the global stage.

“Let’s be clear, these results should not fuel further division or partisan attacks,” Malette added. “They demonstrate that many Canadians believe in the direction of the government under Prime Minister Mark Carney and that confidence was reflected at the ballot box in Ontario and Quebec.”

He underscored that a majority government provides the certainty needed for businesses, industries, and investors, both domestic and international, to operate with confidence.

“For too long, progress has been slowed by obstruction and political gamesmanship,” said Malette. “Now is the time for Parliamentarians of all parties to work collaboratively and deliver the results Canadians expect.”
