Major damage in large Trenton fire

By Brock Ormond Apr 9, 2026 | 7:40 PM

Quinte West fire personnel remained busy on Thursday in dealing with a large ‘chain reaction’ fire in Trenton.

Fire Chief John Whelan told InQuinte.ca that a house fire broke out on 40 College St. at 4:30 pm, requiring the presence of multiple crews and caused major damage.

The smoke from that blaze reportedly travelled far enough that it caused a second alarm to go off at a building on 25 Ontario St.

The cause of the fire, which resulted in an estimated $300,000 in damage, was deemed to be careless smoking.

OPP, Hastings-Quinte Paramedics and Hydro One crews all responded for support.
