Belleville Police has charged a man from outside the Quinte region in a robbery case which also involved a single-vehicle collision in a reported attempt to escape.

An attempted theft was reported around mid-afternoon on Sunday from a business on Old Highway 2, where an unknown male reportedly tried to steal an RV from the property.

Witnesses observed the incident and intervened, at which point the suspect fled in a truck, striking three vehicles and causing damage to the vehicles and the RV.

The truck eventually collided with a pole before the suspect fled on foot but was stopped by witnesses until police arrived.

43-year-old Jason Fleury of Hamilton was arrested and charged with robbery with violence, dangerous driving and failing to comply with probation.
