The City of Belleville is launching a planning study to guide future growth in the Cannifton and Corbyville areas and is inviting residents and businesses to share their input.
The Cannifton/Corbyville Planning Area Strategy will examine how these communities and the nearby Northeast Industrial Park may grow in the coming years and develop a coordinated approach to land use, infrastructure and economic development. The work is a priority for the City as it plans for continued growth and works to meet housing targets under the federal Housing Accelerator Fund while updating its Official Plan.
“The Cannifton and Corbyville areas are expected to face significant growth pressures in the years ahead,” said Thomas Deming, manager of policy planning with the City of Belleville. “This study will help guide growth by identifying infrastructure needs and creating a clear framework for future development.”
This study is being conducted in accordance with the Integrated Approach as set out in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process. This process allows for the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act and the Planning Act to be satisfied concurrently. Because the study includes reviewing water, wastewater, and stormwater needs, it will satisfy Phases 1 and 2 of the MCEA process, providing the basis for future investigations of any identified Schedule B or C projects. Upon completion of the study, a final report will be made available for public and agency review.
Community input will help shape the strategy. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to follow updates and participate in engagement opportunities throughout the process.
