Impaired driving charges laid near Tweed after vehicle was stuck in snowbank

Officers from the Central Hastings OPP have laid charges in an impaired driving investigation near Tweed.

Around 9:30 p.m. this past Saturday night, police received a report of a vehicle stuck in a snowbank on Johnston Rd in Thomasburg.

Police attended the scene and numerous open alcohol containers were observed in the vehicle. The driver provided a sample of their breath into an approved alcohol screening device at the roadside and was arrested and taken to the Central Hastings Detachment for further testing.

Tanya Vanderwater, 50, of Centre Hastings, was charged with impaired driving and impaired while over 80 mg.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on April 23, 2026. Additionally, their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.
