Game 3- Raiders 3 @ Huskies 4 (OT)
The Frankford Huskies were inches away from the jaws of defeat in Game 3 on home ice, but gained a second life thanks to late magic.
Local defenceman Ty McCambridge of Shannonville crossed the goal line with five seconds left in regulation to tie the game, before he and Jake Sage helped set up Ryan Foley for the game-winner 5:31 into the extra session, breaking the hearts of Napanee Raider fans in the Lennox and Addington County.
Andrew Carr and Ben Kerr put Napanee ahead 2-0 before Frankford came back to stun the Raiders with goals 14 seconds apart from Deke Osterhout and Mason Boyer.
McCambridge’s clutch moment was the response to Reid Lambert’s goal with four-and-a-half minutes remaining in the third, assisted by Blake Ellis.
Liam Boyer made 31 saves as the Huskies sailed back on the road with a chance to finish off their Tod Division rivals on Friday night.
Game 4- Huskies 4 @ Raiders 3
After a hard-fought series loss the previous year, Frankford exacted revenge, finishing the job with another close win at Best and Bash Arena.
Once again, Frankford spotted Napanee a two-goal lead but resiliently clawed back with a pair on the powerplay in the second courtesy of Osterhout and Riley Grimmon, each notching their fifth of the postseason.
Frankford’s red-hot man advantage continued in the third, with Spencer Stanutz netting the go-ahead marker four minutes or so into the frame for his fourth of the playoffs.
Jake Sage’s third at 8:15 proved to be huge as the series winner, and the Huskies overcame a late Raiders tally and hung on for their second straight sweep.
Liam Boyer duplicated his Game 3 performance with 31 saves on 34 shots as the Huskies extended their lengthy winning run to a whopping 17 straight games.
The Huskies will be on the road to start their Tod Division Final versus the Lakefield Chiefs this upcoming weekend.
The two teams finished #1 and #2 in the regular season standings, separated by a slim one-point margin.
Head-to-head, Frankford took five out of seven meetings during the season, outscoring the Chiefs 25-22.
