More details have been released about a water rescue on the Moira River near Roslin over the weekend.

On March 15th at 8:05 pm, Belleville Fire was requested for assistance by the Tweed Fire Dept with an ice water rescue on the Moira River south of Tweed in the Roslin area.

Two people were stranded in the middle of the river after their off-road vehicle became swamped and overcome by the river flow.

Belleville Fire’s water rescue team made contact with the patients and found them in extreme hypothermia and unable to move.

Firefighters took the patients down the fast-flowing river for about 1 km in the dark to awaiting ambulances where they were transported to BGH for treatment.

Officials say this was an extremely challenging rescue in the dark on an unfamiliar stretch of the river.

The teamwork of Tweed fire working with Belleville Fire , OPP and Hastings Quinte EMS resulted in two people being saved.

Tweed and Belleville Fire would like to remind residents and visitors to be safe and stay back from fast flowing water during the spring thaw.
