Power outages continue on Thursday in Bancroft area

By Paul Martin Mar 12, 2026 | 5:16 AM

Repair crews with Hydro One are continuing work to restore the province’s power grid, with Bancroft one of the areas hardest hit by Wednesday’s Freezing Rain.

Dozens of outages have been reported in North Hastings, with thousands of customers still in the dark on Thursday morning.

The estimated time of restoration for many locations is 4 pm on Thursday, with some to the west of Bancroft not expected to have the power restored until the end of the day (11 pm).

Hydro One posted the following message on their Storm Centre page on Wednesday night.

HYDRO ONE POST – Crews from across the province continue to restore power as safely and quickly as possible after severe storms moved through central parts of eastern Ontario. In some areas crews may be delaying by challenge driving conditions. We anticipate some customers in the hardest hit areas will be without power overnight. It’s important to continue to prepare for an extended outage as freezing rain and high winds are expected tomorrow.

Outages can be reported by texting 92887 (WATTS), through the company’s outage map and app, or by calling 1-800-434-1235. Outage tools are updated every 10 minutes. When restoring power, crews need to repair/rebuild main lines along with other key pieces of electricity infrastructure before repairs can be made to power lines that serve smaller numbers of customers. It’s important to remember that the estimated time of restoration may change when crews arrive onsite and start repairs based on any additional damage/repairs required.

Safety is our priority.

  • If you spot a fallen line, it’s critical to keep at least 10 metres back – that’s the length of a school bus, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
  • If you’re using a generator, ensure n.it is outside and away from any windows or ventilation
  • If there is flooding inside your home that is starting to reach electrical outlets, baseboard heaters or furnace, call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235 to have power safely turned off. Water and electricity do not mix. Do not enter any flooded areas, such as the basement, until power is disconnected
