Hastings-Quinte Paramedics are aiming to augment its fleet of ambulances for next year.
A Hastings County’s joint emergency services committee recommendation on Wednesday to purchase four ambulances to be put into service in 2027 was approved to go to Hastings County Council later this month.
Paramedic Chief Carl Bowker stated the County has a replacement schedule for ambulances of 275,000 km and lead times for ordering continue to be in the range of 12 to 18 months, therefore, early approval for these orders is needed to minimize the operational impact.
Based on the paramedic services’ replacement cycle and analysis of current and projected mileages, Bowker stated it will require four new ambulances next year which were included in the multi-year capital budget, with a deposit of approximately $326,700 required this year to secure the order.
This would be covered through capital reserves.
He told the committee Hastings-Quinte Paramedics plan to put out a Request for Proposals later this year to ensure that paramedics are equipped with the best designed vehicle to provide patient care through a competitive bid process.
The following vehicles would be most in need of replacement in 2027:
| Vehicle | Year | Station | Current Odometer (km) | Projected replacement | |
