Dog saved on Moira River Tuesday

By Brock Ormond Mar 10, 2026 | 1:56 PM

Belleville Fire and Emergency Services is sending out a reminder to watch for fast-flowing water conditions after a harrowing incident Tuesday morning.

Before 11 a.m., Deputy Fire Chief Mark Shannon stated crews were dispatched to the Moira River in Plainfield, where a dog was reportedly clinging to the side of the ice.

Belleville firefighters successfully rescued the dog and returned it to its owner to take to the veterinary clinic to be checked over.

Belleville fire officials would like to remind residents and visitors of the fast-flowing water conditions during spring thaw.

You are also strongly encouraged to please stay back from fast moving water and keep pets on a leash near the ice and water.
