A significant weather event could cause a series of problems on Wednesday especially in northern parts of the Quinte Region.
A Rainfall Warning is now in effect entire region. That was upgraded to a Freezing Rain Warning (orange) for the Bancroft area around 10 am on Tuesday, and a Freezing Rain Warning (yellow) for the Centre Hastings area (Madoc, Marmora Tweed) on Tuesday night.
In the area stretching from North Hastings (Bancroft) to Ottawa, they could receive 10 to 20 mm of freezing rain over a 24-hour period.
Ice build up is likely to cause tree branches to break. Widespread utility outages are possible. Freezing rain may fall heavily at times. In this case, the precipitation may not freeze immediately, which may lead to localized flooding in low lying areas.
In the Centre Hastings area (Madoc, Marmora, Tweed), the freezing rain should be lighter but could still be significant with 2 to 5 mm possible.
Forecasts are also calling for 20 to 40 mm of rain for a widespread area stretching from Centre Hastings to Prince Edward County and Brighton through Quinte West and Belleville over to Kingston. Locally higher amounts are possible in areas that receive thunderstorms.
