Bridge rehab project approved in Belleville

A bridge rehabilitation project is going ahead in Belleville.

The Front Street Upper Bridge was approved for upgrades by council at its meeting on Monday.

Parts of the bridge, built in the 1930s, are significantly deteriorating, including the arches, abutments, pier, sidewalks and barriers, and deck joints.

Capital funding for rehabilitation work on the Upper Bridge was approved by Council as part of the 2025 Capital Budget.

The rehabilitation project would cost around $4.1 million, which is deemed more cost-effective than the price tag of building a brand new bridge in the $15 million range.

City staff made the recommendation to have the bridge continue to accommodate vehicle and pedestrian traffic based on results from a traffic impact study.
