A person is facing heavy charges after a reported sexual assault incident on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

Tyendinaga Police is investigating the case, after receiving report of an incident on Feb. 11 where a child was reportedly assaulted by an employee of a Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte Before & After School Program.

TPS say an individual was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and one count each of sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.

This case involves children, privacy rights, and criminal charges, so few details will be made available out of concern for the victim.

In a separate statement, the MBQ stated its priority remains the safety of community’s children, as well as the victim and their family and that it is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Officials also confirmed and reassured the community that all MBQ employees are screened prior to beginning employment, especially those working with the community’s most vulnerable.
