Belleville Police arrest man following incident with a knife

Belleville Police have arrested a Belleville man on several charges following an incident on Sunday night involving a knife.

Around 7 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a report of threats from a business in the city’s north end.

A staff member reported that an unknown male had pulled out a knife and threatened to stab two employees before fleeing the scene.

Police reviewed video surveillance and began searching for the suspect. At 7:48pm, officers located a suspect and made an arrest. During the arrest, the suspect admitted to stealing a mug from another nearby business.

As a result of investigation, a 50-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:

· Assault with a weapon X2

· Uttering threats X2

· Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

· Theft under $5000

· Fail to comply with probation order X2

He was held for a bail hearing.
