Absent of the OJHL’s top point-getter Taeo Artichuk, the Trenton Golden Hawks found a way to bounce back after a tough Family Day loss.

The Hawks doubled the Newmarket Hurricanes 4-2 on Friday night at the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens, with key contributions from other top players.

Lucas Digiantommaso, Josh Penney, Jamie Darlison and Thomas Kuipers all posted a goal and an assist in the victory.

Trenton went ahead 1-0 after one period on Digiantommaso’s 15th strike of the campaign from Darlison at 9:51.

The Hawks propelled themselves higher with Penney’s ninth just 49 seconds into the middle frame, then Darlison beat Hurricanes goalie Carter Froggett around the four-and-a-half minute mark for his 27th of the year, with Digiantommaso setting him up to return the favour from the first.

Marcello Giorgi’s powerplay marker closed the gap to 3-1 later in the period, but the proverbial Newmarket balloon was popped when Kuipers broke through to notch his 14th of the season to round out Trenton’s scoring.

Simon Wang’s third period powerplay goal didn’t hurt the Hawks, as they locked down their 41st victory of the year.

Colton Drillen-Roach’s 27 saves was strong enough for the win.

The Hawks stay home to play the #2 ranked Stouffville Spirit on Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m.
