Seven students with the local public school board are being honoured for receiving a prestigious award.
Officials with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board issued the following congratulations on Monday.
RELEASE – Congratulations to seven secondary school graduates who are recipients of the Governor General’s Academic Medal. It is awarded to the student graduating with the highest average from a high school, college or university.

- James Ferguson, Trenton High School
- Leah Hudacin, Eastside Secondary School
- Grace Kinney, North Hastings High School
- Elly Lindsay, Centennial Secondary School
- Flora Sonneveld, Bayside Secondary School
Since 1873, the Governor General’s Academic Medal has recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students in Canada. It has become one of the most prestigious awards that a student in a Canadian educational institution can receive. Medals are presented on behalf of the Governor General by participating educational institutions, along with personalized certificates signed by the Governor General.
