Quinte West will have a new Mayor this fall.
Jim Harrison has confirmed to our newsroom that he will not be running for a fourth term as Mayor in October.
He says he has already informed staff and council of his decision.
After many years as a Councillor in Murray Ward, Harrison was first elected as Mayor in Quinte West in 2014, serving three full terms in the post.
Harrison told our newsroom that he has “certainly enjoyed my time as a politician in Quinte West, engaging with the community and helping to move projects forward”.
He also says they “worked hard to keep taxes down, but it has been quite challenging.”
Harrison says he is looking forward to taking it a bit easier but will still be active on the farm and in the community.
As of Tuesday, there are only two candidates who have filed papers to run for Mayor in Quinte West this year, Zack Card (Councillor Ward 1 – Trenton) and Shelley Steadall (Councillor Ward 2 – Sidney).
Candidates have until August 21st to file their nomination papers for this fall’s municipal election.
