The Northumberland OPP has laid a number of charges following reported thefts in Brighton.
Back on June 18, police received a report that liquor had been stolen from a commercial premises on Park Street in Brighton.
The individual had left the location prior to the arrival of officers. OPP began an investigation and an individual was sought in relation to the incident.
Then on June 29, a complainant reported that a theft had taken place at a business on Main Street in Brighton. The caller advised that a person had stolen approximately $400 worth of merchandise before leaving the area in a vehicle.
Police attended and initiated an investigation, which resulted in an individual being identified in relation to the matter.
This Tuesday, around 1 a.m., OPP officers were on patrol in the area of Elizabeth Street and Oliphant Street in Brighton when they conducted a traffic stop. During the interaction, an officer observed a passenger in the vehicle who was sought in connection with theft investigations in the area. The passenger was taken into custody.
Leena Canfyn-Crawford, 28, from Brighton, has been charged with two counts each of theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with undertaking.
The accused is scheduled to appear in Cobourg Court in August 2026.
Police continued their investigation and determined that the driver was suspended and committing a number of other offences.
As a result, the driver, a 33-year-old female from Brighton, was charged with:
· Driving while under suspension
· Windshield obstructed
· Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
· Fail to surrender insurance card
