Government offices, municipal offices, banks, post offices, and major retailers including groceries stores, are closed today. Some privately owned businesses will be open.
Here’s what is happening in Belleville.
Belleville City Hall, Kinsmen Pool, Leaf and Yard Waste Depot, Thurlow landfill, Glanmore House and Belleville Public Library, are all closed today.
Belleville Transit is not running, and will resume normal operations Thursday.
Due to the heat wave, the City of Belleville has opened the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre as a cooling centre only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to use the west entrance. All other programs and services are not running today.
Canada Day activities at West Zwick’s Park will start at 11 a.m. Admission is free. There will be no pancake breakfast this year.
The vendor market will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Live music at the Lion’s Pavilion will start at 11 a.m. with the final performer taking the stage at 8:30 p.m.
The City of Belleville is offering free shuttle buses from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., running throughout the day from the Quinte Mall, downtown Belleville transit terminal, and West Zwick’s Park.
Parking at West Zwick’s Park is $5, and the money will support local community organizations. Transit is encouraged as parking fills up quickly.
Canada Day fireworks will start at 9:45 p.m., depending on the weather!
