The kick-off to Canada Day happens Tuesday night in Wellington.
Wellington Main Street, from Wharf Street to Beach Street, will be closed to traffic from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The annual street dance, dinner, and fireworks celebration will start at 5:30 p.m. in the downtown core. Local band Cue The Funk will start playing at the Gazebo at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks from the Welligton Rotary Beach are expected to start, depending on the weather, just before 10 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to park outside the downtown core and walk down. Canada Day Festivities in Wellington will continue tomorrow with the 10:30 a.m. parade.
Here’s the full schedule for Wednesday in Wellington.
The parade will be followed by Music in the Park from 12 pm – 2 pm presented by the Prince Edward County Lions Club featuring music by Heartlight. BBQ hotdogs and water will be available by donation. Rotary Ribs will also be in the park so bring your appetite!
- 9:00 – 2 pm | Wellington Community Market at the United Church parking lot
- 9:00 – 2 pm | Yard sale and The What Not Thrift Shop at Wellington Anglican church
- 9:30 – 2 pm | Wellington Library book sale
- 9:30 am | Strawberry Social at Wellington United Church (available until sold out!) Begins immediately following the parade until 1:30pm. Cost is $8 for adults & $5 for children under 10.
- 10:30 am | Canada Day Parade (begins at Belleville Street and Main Street and runs to Consecon St)
- 11 am – 1 pm | Free children’s activities by Chapter and Vine Literary Society including free books from County Kids Read
- 12 pm – 2 pm| Music in the Park under the Gazebo and hot dog BBQ presented by Prince Edward County Lions Club
- 12 pm | Lunch on the Lawn at Wellington Anglican Church
- 12 pm – 2 pm | Rotary Ribs in the Park
Canada Day celebrations will be held in downtown Picton from noon to 4 p.m. There will be fun for all ages with special activities, live music and vendors, at Benson Park.
Prince Edward County Service Reminders:
*Picton and Wellington Arenas, County Museums will be closed on Canada Day. County Transit will also not operate on Wednesday.
*Prince Edward County Municiple Offices will be closed Canada Day and re-open on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
*County staff are encouraging those with urgent inquiries when Shire Hall is close to call, 613-476-6505 for road emergencies and 613-967-8777 for water or sewer emergencies,
