Big plans are underway for the west-end of Highway 2.
The City of Quinte West held a public drop-in information session on Tuesday from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Trent Port Marina to discuss the urbanization scheduled for Highway 2.
Staff from the City will be hosting a meeting next week, reviewing plans to improve Highway 2 from County Road 40 to 2nd Dug Hill Road.
The 2027 project is set to include full road reconstruction, three new two-lane roundabouts, improved drains, and new pedestrian lanes.
The goal of this project is to accommodate future residential environments and to project the most efficient way to keep transportation and pedestrian traffic moving.
The new two-lane roundabouts, as opposed to the standard four-lane, will be the first of the Quinte region and will replace stoplights at County Road 40, Little Farm Boulevard, and 2nd Dug Hill Road to reduce congestion.

There will also be new multi-use trails on the west-end of Highway 2 connected to 2nd Dug Hill Road, as well as future subdivisions that may come off of that road.
These three-metre paved pathways will support pedestrians, bikes, roller blades, scooters, and other non-motorized uses.
Robert Jackson, Manager of Engineering Services at the City of Quinte West, says that these are all exciting improvements projected to begin during the summer of 2027, although more specific timelines will be updated closer to the start of the road work.
